About

I'm Ludovico Russo, co-founder and VP at RedCarbon, where I build compound AI systems for Security Operations Centers. I split my time between the architecture of agentic systems and the messy reality of running them in production against adversarial inputs.

Before RedCarbon I co-founded HotBlack Robotics (2015–2019), a cloud-robotics company building infrastructure to deploy ROS applications across fleets of mobile robots. HotBlack closed in 2019; the technical lessons — about distributed state, failure modes, and the gap between demos and production — still shape how I think about compound AI today.

I write about agentic architectures, information theory, and the gap between what we say AI systems can do and what they actually do once they meet real traffic. The technical posts live under field notes; the more speculative pieces — on evolution, philosophy of mind, and the structure of intelligence — live under essays.

I studied engineering in Turin, Italy, and I still live and work there. Most of what I've published before 2025 is in Italian and reflects a much earlier stage of my thinking; it lives in the archive.

In 2022 I wrote a long-form piece on how I became a developer (in Italian).
